How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

The DFP Manager of Production Planning will lead a team of approximately 5 - 8 Individual Merit Contributors who have a background in Manufacturing related disciplines and who specialize in planning work for specific manufacturing cells.  DFP’s product lines that will be supported consist of cabin interior assemblies that involve composite, sheet metal, machining, and wire harness manufacturing processes.  Special Processes supported include bonding, chemical processing and paint application.

The manager must be able to do all of the following:
Provide hands-on leadership to a Production Planning team focused on meeting and optimizing production schedules.
Oversee a team focused on maximizing production throughput by:
a. Maintaining program schedules and current engineering releases using the MRP/ERP system
b. Reacting in a timely manner and exhibiting good decision making when changes occur
c. Ensure that operations are analyzed for maximum efficiencies and continuous improvements are made to ensure that production activities are completed efficiently
d. Create and approve standard operating procedures as required
Oversee the tactical actions that support day-to-day operations by:
a. Working with Supply Chain, Planning, Engineering and production to capture all current and upcoming product demand and create optimal production schedules
b. Coordinate and effectively communicate with all stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks to the schedule
c. Analyze capacity management throughout all manufacturing operations; manage load leveling and bottlenecks using theory of constraints
d. Work in conjunction with other stakeholders to develop, track and analyze relevant metrics and KPIs
Build, develop and lead a high-performing team.  Hire staff, assign work, maintain employee records, set standards, train for skill and coach team members to achieve objectives.
Foster teamwork and open collaboration within the team and organization
Develop both strategic and tactical plans that create a safety-conscious environment resulting in employee safety and well-being.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Five (5) years of experience in a role involving manufacturing, repair or modification, three (3) of which in a lead or supervisory role preferred.  Experience in aviation related manufacturing is highly desired.
  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge of production scheduling, manufacturing methods, capacity management relationship to MRP and process improvement
  • Must have solid knowledge of MRP/ERP systems as well as well as typical PC/business software applications (i.e., MS Office). Experience with and managing to the Epicor MRP system preferred. 
  • Must possess a high level of analytical skills, be self-starting, detail-oriented and an effective planner and project manager.  Must also have specific knowledge of production workflows and change management.
  • Must be an effective leader and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with continuous improvement methods.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally (<30%).
  • Must have experience with leading teams of technical people and managing complex projects.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
